Updated economic and demographic statistics on the states 55 counties and 16 metropolitan areas are available from West Virginia University .
The Bureau of Business and Economic Research in the College of Business and Economics has issued its latest set of West Virginia County Data Profiles, which contain detailed economic and demographic statistics on the states counties and metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas. Profiles are also available for the state and the nation.
These profiles are a great resource,said Randy Childs , a bureau research assistant professor who supervised preparation of the profiles.They include much of the economic and demographic information available for the states counties, metropolitan areas, the state and the nation. The County Data Profiles help businesses, state and local policymakers and analysts gauge the economic and demographic trends driving their economies.
Tom S. Witt , director of the bureau, said,We have produced these profiles on an annual basis for 18 years and originally only sold them in a printed form. With the development of the Internet, individuals and organizations can easily access the profiles for free.
Each county data profile contains personal income by major source, 1969-2006; earnings by industry, 1969-2006; employment by industry, 1969-2006; compensation by industry, 2001-06; transfer payments, 1969-2006; labor force statistics, 1986-2007; farm income and expenses, 1969-2006; general demographic characteristics and selected social, economic and housing characteristics from the 2000 Census; and 2000 Census commuting by place of residence and work.
The profiles also cover the following metropolitan and micropolitan areas: Beckley, Bluefield, Charleston, Clarksburg, Cumberland, Fairmont, Hagerstown-Martinsburg, Huntington-Ashland, Morgantown, Oakhill, Parkersburg-Marietta, Point Pleasant, Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, Weirton-Steubenville, Wheeling, Winchester, the state and the nation.
County Data Profiles are available free of charge in PDF format on the bureaus Web site ( www.bber.wvu.edu ). They are also available in hard-copy format and on CD-ROM for a fee. Profiles ordered on CD-ROM also include most tables in spreadsheet format.
