More than 400 West Virginia University students will receive scholarships through the WVU Alumni Associations Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund (LPEF) this year.

The Alumni Association is awarding full scholarships to Kenneth Adkins of Chapmanville, Michael Deasy of Fairmont, JonathanCalebKing of Charleston, Erin Montgomery of Morgantown, Daphne OHara of Oak Hill and DanielAdamSimmons of Williamstown.

The Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund scholarship program was established more than 70 years ago,said Stephen L. Douglas, president and chief executive officer of the WVU Alumni Association.Our scholarship recipients represent the best and brightest at WVU . We are pleased to recognize these students and provide them with an opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the future.

A reception honoring the scholars will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday (Aug.17) at the Erickson Alumni Center. Trustees from the LPEF and WVU administrators will greet students and parents.

We always look forward to talking with our scholarship recipients and their parents,Douglas said.Many of these students are just beginning their journey at our University, and we hope that these scholarships will help them achieve their dreams at WVU .

Scholarships totaling more than $400,000 will be awarded to high school valedictorians, student body presidents and other deserving Mountaineers this fall. To qualify, recipients must be West Virginia residents, demonstrate financial need, have a minimum 2.75 GPA and demonstrate good citizenship, as outlined in their extracurricular activities.

The LPEF is one of the Universitys oldest scholarship programs. In 2007, its assets totaled more than $12.5 million. The trustees proudly note that all contributions have been given without solicitation, which demonstrates the generosity of the alumni and friends of WVU . Since its inception, more than 3,000 students have benefited from the LPEF .
