University Police continue to search for a missing woman who was visiting the Morgantown area and participating in a professional exchange program at West Virginia University.

Carmen Gloria Sanchez Gutierrez, 36, from Coyhaique, Chile, was last seen at 7:15 p.m. Monday (Aug. 4) on Herman Avenue in Star City, police said. She stopped at a random house in the area to ask for help, then left before police arrived.

The woman has black hair, is 5 feet, 3 inches to 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs 110-120 pounds. She was wearing a gray long-sleeved T-shirt, green capri pants, pink plastic sandals and a black fanny pack when last seen.

She speaks broken English, as Spanish is her primary language.

Gutierrez was reportedly eating with friends at a restaurant in Granville when she said she was expecting a call from a relative and left with other friends, police said. She separated from them in Star City and began walking, police said.

Authorities sent surrounding police agencies an alert to be on the lookout for the woman and have entered her name into the National Crime Information Center.
