Bargain hunters will be flocking to Saturdays (May 24) fourth annual Blue and Gold Mine Sale from 7 a.m.-noon at Milan Puskar Stadium.

The huge yard sale is organized by theWest Virginia University Environmental Conservation Awareness Now, or WE CAN campaign, in partnership with WVU s Center for Civic Engagement.

The event will feature furniture, clothing, housewares, books, sporting goods and other items donated by WVU students and community members that will be sold to benefit the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties. The event has raised more than $26,000 in the past three years.

This may be our biggest event yet, said Barbara Angeletti, WVU s recycling coordinator. The number of items continues to grow each year along with interest from the public. Last year, there were hundreds of people standing in line to get in at 7 oclock in the morning, so weve extended the hours this year to accommodate shoppers.

Admission is $3 between 7 and 8:30 a.m., and free after 8:30 a.m. All transactions are cash only; no checks or credit cards will be accepted.

Many of the items were donated by WVU students as they prepared to move or leave campus for the summer months, Angeletti said. The items were collected by WVU s Facilities Management unit, taken to the stadium and sorted, priced and prepared for the sale by United Way volunteers.

Items that are not sold will be donated to local social service agencies.
