Talented high school musicians are invited to attend theWest Virginia Universityhttp://www.ccarts.wvu.edu/community_arts/flutecamp/ “>Flute Camp June 18-21.
The camp will be at the WVU Creative Arts Center on the Evansdale Campus in Morgantown. It is organized by thehttp://www.ccarts.wvu.edu/community_arts/flutecamp/ “>WVU Community Music Program and is open to all high school flutists who are entering grades 9-12.
WVU Flute Choir director and flute professor Francesca Arnone is presenting the camp. She will be assisted by Laurie Glencross, flute professor at Milikin University, and WVU flute students. The program will include master classes; small group lessons; tone, technique, music theory and practicing strategy classes; small ensembles; two flute choirs; faculty recitals; and a Gala Concert for family and friends.
Arnone earned flute performance degrees from Oberlin, the San Francisco Conservatory and the University of Miami. She is a member of the WVU Laureate Wind Quintet and has served as principal flute of the Boise Philharmonic for four seasons. She has also played piccolo with the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra since 1997, and before that, she performed with the Orquesta Sinfonica de la Universidad de Guanajuato in Mexico.
Arnone has performed with the Florida Philharmonic, Florida West Coast Symphony, Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Missouri Chamber Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfonica de Tenerife in Spain, among others.
Before coming to WVU , she taught at Northwest Nazarene University, Boise State University and Idaho State University. A winner of the National Flute Associations Doctoral Dissertation and Convention Performers competitions, she has appeared in the Dallas, Las Vegas and San Diego annual conventions. Arnone has also been a flute and piccolo concerto soloist in the United States and Mexico.
The deadline for camp registration is June 1. Tuition includes all activities except housing and meals. Private lessons are also available for an additional fee.
