High school seniors will have the opportunity to share their talents in the 2008 Cathryn and Herman Godes Young Artist Competition at West Virginia University.

The competition will take place at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (Room 200A) at WVU s Creative Arts Center on the Evansdale Campus. It is organized by the Universitys Community Arts Program.

The competition is open to outstanding high school seniors who audition to appear as soloists with the Community Arts Orchestra during its April 27 spring concert. The winner will receive a cash award of $500.

Students may audition with one movement from the concerto repertoire. The approval of a piece and accessibility of orchestral parts must be confirmed by the conductor before eligibility is established.

Applicants must be available to perform during the spring concert.
