Get ready to start boogying.”Hairspray,”the Broadway, Tony Award-winning musical-comedy phenomenon, is swinging into the West Virginia UniversityCreative Arts Center March 8 for two spectacular shows. Performance times are 3 and 7:30 p.m.

The feel-good musical takes its audience back to 1962 Baltimore, where 16-year-old Tracy Turnblada big girl with big hair and an even bigger heartsets out to dance her way onto TVs most popular program,The Corny Collins Show.

To the shock of the reigning dance princess, Amber, Tracy wins a spot on the program and is transformed overnight from outcast to teen celebrity. But can a plus-size trendsetter in dance and fashion vanquish Ambers title, win the heart of popular teen hunk Link Larkin and integrate a television show without denting her’do?

In 2007, due to the success of Broadway musical,”Hairspray”was remade into another movie, which landed in theaters nationwide, starring John Travolta, Queen Latifah and Zac Efron. It quickly escalated to blockbuster status, introducing a new generation to the delightful music and dancing, while conveying the importance of self-belief and having the passion to make a difference.
