The Broadway musical hit”Chicago”will thrill Morgantown when it arrivesat the West Virginia UniversityCreative Arts Center Feb. 12 and 13. Show times are 7:30 p.m.

With all the elements of a great showgorgeous music, astounding choreography and a truly memorable performance”Chicago”has become one of Broadways most popular and thrilling, smash-hit musicals.

The musical tells the story of seductive nightclub dancer, Roxie Hart, who kills her lover in a crime of passion. When her husband fails to take the blame,Hart fights for an acquittal alongside her cunning lawyer Billy Flynn. As the medias new starlet, shell do anythingeven stage a pregnancyto keep attentionfocused on her.

Only two things can get in her wayan even more sensational crime or fellow prisoner Velma Kelly, who seesHart as the girl who stole both her lawyer and her limelight. Facing off in the publics eye,the twoprove that with the right song and dance, you can get away with murder.

“Chicago”is based on reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins1926 play by the same name, which was itself based on actual events Watkins covered in Chicago in the mid-1920s. In the 1970s, Bob Fosse, John Kander and Fred Ebb collaborated to create an exhilarating musical version.

The musicals revival in the 1990s was welcomed with open arms by audiences and critics everywhere. In 1997, the musical won six Tony awards, including Best Musical Revival, Best Direction and Best Choreography.
