Learn how businesses are becoming more efficient at the Industries of the Future-West Virginia (IOF-WV) Day from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the state Capitol building in Charleston.

The public event, which will include a discussion of green technology, is a collaboration of the National Research Center for Coal and Energy at West Virginia University and the West Virginia Division of Energy.

It will feature exhibits from manufacturers around the state, technology service companies, innovative technology companies and academic and government programs that provide assistance and support to energy intensive companies.

An 11:45 a.m. luncheon address at the Great Hall of The Cultural Center will focus on the theme ofCreating Energy Advantages for West Virginia Industry.Also during the luncheon, a West Virginia company will receive the Energy Saver Award from the U.S. Department of Energy.

IOF-WV Day at the Capitol is an important annual event for our state Legislature and manufacturing sector,said Jeff Herholdt, acting director of the Division of Energy.It helps elected officials appreciate the wide array of products manufactured in West Virginia. At the same time, IOF -WV Day acquaints our businesses with services and support industries available to them to help improve plant performance and energy management.

The event emphasizes the closeness of the University and industry partnership with the state government, IOF -WV co-director Carl Irwin said.

IOF -WV is a partnership program that works to save energy, reduce waste and improve productivity in West Virginias energy-intensive industries by addressing issues relevant to the unique mix of businesses, resources, energy costs and availability in the state. The program grew out of collaboration between WVU , the West Virginia Division of Energy and the U.S. Department of Energy.

IOF -WV teams conduct assessments, develop research projects and facilitate interactions and networking among diverse, interdisciplinary representatives of industries such as aluminum, steel, glass, chemicals and polymers; wood and forest products; and metal casting, mining and technology companies.
