Adam Strylowski, a West Virginia University student from Westminster, Md., spent his summer in Munich completing a three-month internship at the West Virginia European Office.

During his internship, the German major promoted, identified and developed European interest in the Mountain State by talking up exports at trade shows across the region. The market research he did daily also contributed to his education across the pond, he said.

I learned a great deal about the world of business and the different ways West Virginia is involved in the foreign markets,Strylowski said.

While in Germany, he made professional contacts and met international students from other countries such as India, China, the Czech Republic, Belgium and Nigeria. He traveled to Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland and met with local business leaders. He also worked the Chemspec trade show in Amsterdam.

The internship influenced me to seek an international business career and improved my knowledge and fluency of the German language, said Strylowski, who plans to return to Germany after he graduates.

He received financial support from the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Academic Enrichment Program, which is geared to students who want to enhance their academic experience with opportunities like Strylowskis internship in Europe.

Applications are being accepted for the 2008 summer internship at the state European office. The deadline is Jan. 15. The program is open to undergraduates studying German and majoring in international business, foreign languages, history, international studies and political science.

A cover letter, resume, transcript and three letters of recommendation must be included in the application.
