A West Virginia University water and wastewater expert has been named to a national panel that aims to improve drinking water safety and tackle other healthy housing issues.

Clement Solomon, program director of WVU s National Drinking Water Clearinghouse and National Small Flows Clearinghouse, will serve on the panel sponsored by the National Center for Health Housing and the Center for Disease Controls National Center for Environmental Health.

The groups 35 experts will look at scientific evidence related to topics such as lead poisoning prevention, on-site wastewater treatment strategies and housing location in the community in addition to drinking water safety, and then pinpoint strategies that have most effectively protected public health.

The outcomes from this collaborative panel will help shape a holistic environmental and public health policy,he said.Bringing together experts from diverse fields will result in developing an integrated framework to deal with the major environmental aspects that influence or impact our quality of life daily.

The National Drinking Water Clearinghouse and National Small Flows Clearinghouse are based at WVU s National Environmental Service Center.

Over the years, experts from the National Environmental Service Center have served on numerous national committees, including the Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Agriculture and Agency for International Development as part of WVU s commitment to public service.

The center helps small and rural communities with their water, wastewater management, infrastructure security and solid waste challenges.
