Julian E. Bailes, M.D., chair of neurosurgery at West Virginia University, will be featured on the CNN Special Investigations Unit program,Death Grip: Inside Pro Wrestling.The program airs on CNN on Saturday, Nov. 10 and Sunday, Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. and again at 11 p.m. on both days.

Dr. Bailes and colleague Bennet Omalu, M.D. studied the brain of the late pro wrestler Chris Benoit for the Sports Legacy Institute. The Institute is an organization that examines the effects of concussions and other sports related brain injuries.

Bailes said that tests conducted at WVU showed that Benoit’s brain was severely damaged from a lifetime of chronic concussions and head trauma.

In June, Chris Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son before killing himself at their home in Atlanta.

Bailes is co-author of the bookWhen Winning Costs Too Much: Steroids, Supplements, and Scandal in Todays Sports World,and a consultant for the NFL Players Association on the lasting effects of head injuries.
