Employers can keep their workers safe in the workplace by refreshing their skills during an Occupational Safety and Health Administration training session next month in Harrisburg, Pa.
OSHA s Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (501) session is geared for people interested in teaching the 10- and 30-hour safety outreach program to their employees and other interested groups.
The course will be from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 6-9 in Harrisburg and will be taught by OSHA -certified instructors from West Virginia University Safety and Health Extension.
Preregistration is required with a one-time fee of $750 that includes the course manual and other materials. The course location will be announced later.
Requirements for the course include five years of experience in general workplace safety and the completion of OSHA Course 511for which equivalent training will also be accepted. A written exam will follow for those wishing to become authorized trainers in the program.
Trainers are required to take the course at least once every four years to maintain their trainer status. A total of 2.5 Continuing Education Units or three semester credits are offered for the course.
