West Virginia University students can communicate a message of safe, responsible behavior and win some great prizes in the process.

WVU is seeking entries for its alcohol safety poster contest. The top prize is a $1,000 U.S. savings bond.

Each poster should address an alcohol-related issue such as binge drinking, the effects of alcohol abuse or safety issues in an original design, said Ruth Kershner, an associate professor in the WVU Department of Community Medicine.

Judging is based on creativity, layout, readability, visual impact and appropriateness for the college-age population. In addition to the savings bond, other prizes include a $250 WVU Bookstore gift certificate for second place and a University parking pass for third place.

The designs may also be used in a campuswide alcohol education campaign.

Were expecting some interesting ideas from the students,Kershner said.Through this event, we can reach students with an important message delivered from their perspective.
