WVU law school hosts continuing education workshops for the state\'s attorneys
Theyre taking attorneys to school this fall at West Virginia Universitys College of Law.
The colleges West Virginia Continuing Legal Education group on Friday (Sept. 14) is hosting the seminar,Federal Criminal Litigationfrom 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. in the Lugar Courtroom.
Topics from the Adam Walsh Child and Protection Safety Act of 2006 to ethical quandaries facing todays criminal defense lawyer will be explored by nationally known litigators who practice in Massachusetts, Maine, New Jersey and West Virginia.
Organizers are expecting more than 100 Federal Criminal Panel attorneys to come out for the seminar thats being hosted by WVU s law school and the federal Public Defenders Office of West Virginia.
Jessica Justice, the College of Laws assistant dean for continuing education, said Fridays seminar will offer new insights on just what it means to practice law in the 21st century.
The curriculum for the day was developed by Brian Kornbrath, the federal public defender for the Northern District of West Virginia.
Brian did an amazing job,Justice said.What he put together will help us address the most important issues facing the defense, including the U.S. Supreme Courts latest decision relating to the guidelines of convicted felons. Were pretty proud of the collaboration.
The seminar is free for federal attorneys, federal law clerks and law students.
Session leaders include Amy Baron-Evans of the National Sentencing Resource Council of Boston; WVU clinical psychologist Dr. William Fremouw; Eric Vos, an assistant federal public defender for the District of Maine; and James Zimarowski, a well-known defense attorney who practices in Morgantown and north-central West Virginia.

The continuing education group is jointly sponsored by the College of Law and the state Bar. The group presents 20 seminars and webcasts a year for members of the bar in West Virginia and surrounding states.
