Continuing the 70-year tradition of academic support of the Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund (LPEF), the Kanawha Valley Chapter of the West Virginia University Alumni Association is hosting a special fund raiser at the law offices of Farmer, Cline&Campbell, PLLC (Sunrise Mansion) Friday, Sept. 7 in Charleston. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Kanawha Valley Chapter Scholarship through the LPEF .
The event will feature a tailgate atmosphere, including food and drinks. WVU Basketball Coach Bob Huggins also will be on hand to greet alumni and friends.
This is a great opportunity to bring together alumni and friends of WVU to support student scholarships in our area,said Steve Hastings, Kanawha Valley Chapter.With it being the night before the WVU -Marshall game, we wanted to create a casual atmosphere where we can enjoy the Mountaineer spirit, while supporting the Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund.
The event, which will take place from 6-8 p.m., is being sponsored by Farmer, Cline&Campbell PLLC and BB&T. A donation to the Kanawha Valley Chapter in the amount of $100 per person ($150 per couple) is required. Individuals interested in attending this fund raiser must RSVP by Sept. 4. The WVU Alumni Associations Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund (LPEF) has helped more than 3,000 students realize their dreams at WVU . This year, the LPEF is celebrating its 70th anniversary, making it one of the universitys oldest scholarship programs. In 2007, the Funds assets totaled more than $12.5 million. This fall, more than 400 West Virginians are attending WVU with the help of the LPEF , including eight full scholars.
The WVU Alumni Association, chartered in 1873, represents more than 170,000 University graduates residing in every county in West Virginia, every state in the union and approximately 60 foreign nations. With nearly 100 registered chapters and constituent groups, the Associations 28,000 dues-paying members support Homecoming Weekend, the WVU Academy of Distinguished Alumni and dozens of other social and philanthropic programs.
