West Virginia University will remember four WVU students and a May graduate who died over the spring and summer with a bell-ringing ceremony Friday, Aug. 24, on the Downtown Campus.

The service will begin at 11:50 a.m. on the Oglebay Plaza. The Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity will ring the bell from the armored cruiser USS West Virginia in honor of:

  • James Dunbar, 22, a May psychology graduate from Pittsburgh, Pa. He passed away June 11 from an illness.
  • Carl Lindberg, 21, a sophomore philosophy major from Ridgway, Pa. He died in May.
  • Shashidhar Malle, 26, a graduate student in Public Health, died April 30 due to a long-term medical condition. He was from India.
  • Douglas Williamson, 24, a senior in multidisciplinary studies from Zelienople, Pa. He died July 27.
  • Christopher Withers, 18, a freshman business and economics major from Huntington. He died June 10 following an automobile accident in Alabama.

Family, friends and members of the University community are welcome to attend the service.
