Brian Ballentine and Rosemary Hathaway are the two newest faculty members in the Department of English at the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University.

Ballentine begins the fall semester as assistant professor and coordinator of the Professional Writing and Editing Program. Ballentine earned his doctorate from Case Western University in 2006, where he served as senior instructor and director of technical and professional communication.

He also has many years of experience in software and Web design.

Ballentine has published articles on digital literacy, open source software and pedagogy, and he is completing work on a textbook for Prentice Hall Press on technical communication for engineers.

Hathaway joins the WVU English Department as assistant professor of English education.

She earned her doctorate in English from Ohio State University in 1998. She taught at the University of Northern Colorado from 1996 until present.

She is an expert in folklore and education and has published widely on pedagogy, public education, folklore and multiculturalism in the elementary and secondary school classroom.

Hathaway is an award-winning teacher and serves as editor of the newsletter, Folklore and Education.
