West Virginia University Libraries is offering a variety of enhanced services to students and faculty returning for the fall semester.
Services include:
- Ask a Librarian �€Patrons dont have to physically visit any of the libraries to benefit from theAsk a Librarianinstant messaging chat reference service. A patron can simply go online and instant message a question to a reference librarian. Contact WVU Libraries using the following screen names: AIM , wvulibraries; Yahoo, wvulibraries; Google Talk, wvulibraries@gmail.com ; and MSN , wvulibraries@hotmail.com .Ask a Librariancan be used whenever a question arises while studying for class, writing a paper or working on a project. The instant messaging service is the newest component ofAsk a Librarianservices, which include telephone, email and in-person research assistance. - New fine policy �€The new fine policy for late books provides a 30-day grace period for library users to renew or return overdue books without incurring fines. Borrowers with books not returned or renewed within 30 days will receive a book replacement bill plus a non-refundable $10 fee. Once the book is returned or renewed, the replacement bill will be cancelled, but the $10 will still be owed. - RefWorks �€Another service being offered to assist students with writing papers is RefWorks, which can ease the tedious task of compiling a bibliography. RefWorks creates bibliographies and inserts notes in any format required. It allows patrons to save references in a personal online database and insert them automatically while writing research papers. A link is located on the LibrariesWeb site.
- Express Print �€The Downtown Campus and Evansdale libraries now have Express Print stations that allow for fast printing. (The stations do not have Internet access.) At the Downtown Library, print stations are on the first floor behind the Reference Desk and in the Copier Room. At Evansdale, the print station is located by the computers.
- Expanded hours for finals �€The Downtown Campus and Evansdale libraries will both be open 24 hours throughoutDead Weekand Finals Week.
- Laptops, computer lab �€Thirty laptops are now available for checkout from Periodicals on the second floor at the Downtown Library. These are in addition to 30 laptops available through Media Services. Another new option for finding computers is Room 136 on the Lower Level, which will be open as a computer lab on weekdays when it is not already serving as a classroom.
- Deep Quietareas �€For students needing a quiet space to study, the Robinson and Milano Reading Rooms at the Downtown Library are good options. The rooms have been designatedDeep Quiet.Talking and cell phones are prohibited.
WVU Libraries extended hours, additional computers and designated quiet study space are all in response to results from the LibQual survey performed during the spring semester.
In addition, patrons should be aware that Interlibrary Loan (ILL) pickup has moved. ILL and E-ZBorrow books are now picked up at the Access Services Desk.
