Rita Coyne has been named senior assistant to the associate vice president for facilities and services at West Virginia University.

Coyne comes to WVU from the city of Wheeling where she has spent the past 18 years as assistant city manager. She also served for a time as interim city manager.

The appointment was made by Joe Fisher, associate vice president for facilities and services at WVU .

We are extremely fortunate to have attracted someone of Ritas caliber,Fisher said.Her energy and expertise will move West Virginia University towards the cutting edge of sustainability developments and environmental stewardship in higher education. I expect her budgetary, organizational and management expertise to bring a new level of cost efficiencies and customer service to WVU Facilities and Services.

In her new position, Coyne will act as WVU s Environmental Sustainability Advocate for all campuses, building upon the Universitys recycling and sustainability efforts that are already under way.

We believe that Ritas efforts will greatly enhance the Universitys continuing emphasis on sustainability,Fisher added.

Coyne will also be responsible for financial oversight of all WVU Facilities and Services units. She also will track performance of Facilities and Services units toward goals and objectives, develop policies and procedures, and conduct special projects in support of the statewide responsibilities of the office.

Coyne earned a bachelors degree in political science and a masters degree in public administration from WVU .

She will begin her new job June 25.
