Dr. Matthew M. Martin has been appointed to a third term as chair of West Virginia Universitys Department of Communication Studies.

A specialist in interpersonal communication, he came to WVU in 1994 and was first appointed department chair in 2001. During his tenure, the department developed a doctoral program.

Mary Ellen Mazey, dean of the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, called Martin anoutstanding administratorand praised his research. He has written or co-written nearly 100 scholarly articles and book chapters, and that output places him among the top 50 researchers in his field nationwide, she said.

Martin taught at Kent State University and John Carroll University prior to joining WVU . He received his doctoral and masters degrees in communication studies from Kent State and a bachelors in journalism from Valparaiso University.
