West Virginia Universitys Eberly College of Arts and Sciences is honoring three employees with its annual Outstanding Staff Award for their hard work and dedication to WVU over the years.

Cathy Jasper, administrative associate for the Center for Womens Studies, was named in the professional category. She is highly respected for her willingness to goabove and beyondthe job description, colleagues say.

With her remarkable ability to remember names and faces, students immediately feel welcome when they come inwhether it is for a job interview or to declare a major in womens studies,said Barbara Howe, director of the Center for Womens Studies.

Jasper is a member of the Women of Color Empowerment Committee of the West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and she volunteers as a Gold and Blue Ambassador for the Mountaineer football team.

She also helps coordinateTake Our Daughters and Sons to Work Daywith the Council for Womens Concerns. She is pursuing a graduate degree in educational leadership studies.

Jonathan Weems, arboretum specialist, was named in the professional/technical category. He helps maintain the Department of Biologys Core Arboretum, ensuring that the space blends and works naturally within the existing environment.

He also helps produce a department newsletter while working with public and University resources to bring the arboretum to the attention of travelers and visitors to the Morgantown area.

Weems helped to facilitate access to the arboretum from the rail trail and has collaborated with an electric company to establish a shrub forest.

Jon works cheerfully regardless of weather, both outside and within the department,said Jonathan Cumming, biology chair.His efforts have helped the Department of Biology educate the public and provide a wonderful resource for WVU students and Morgantown residents to visit and escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

Amanda Riley, senior administrative secretary in the Department of English, was named in the clerical category.

She is being hailed for her work ethic, be it initiating the reorganization of an outdated filing system or by giving up her lunch hour to simply address and solve problems as they arise.

Amanda is always willing to go out of her way to see that a faculty member or a student gets what he or she needs,said Mark Brazaitis, associate professor in the English department.Shes a bright, welcome presence in the office and perfectly professional. Were grateful that shes part of our team.
