A WVU student was arrested and charged with malicious wounding on a non-student early Saturday morning (approximately 3:30 a.m., May 5). The incident occurred near the entrance to Sterling University Ridge Apartments, 350 Wedgewood Drive, where WVU leases several buildings for student housing.

The attack resulted in serious head and face injuries to the victim, who was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital where he remains for treatment.

University Police remind students and the community that violent behavior leads to criminal arrests and is never the solution.

Chief Bob Roberts said malicious wounding is a felony and, upon conviction, can be punished by confinement in the penitentiary and fines.

WVU s Office of Student Judicial Affairs will also have a student conduct hearing with the student who was charged.
