West Virginia Universitys Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences recently recognized several outstanding staff members at its annual employee luncheon.

College-wide nominations were sought in various categories and award recipients were then chosen by the Staff Recognition Committee.

Administrative/Managerial:

As manager of network services, Ben Groover was recognized for his willingness to help others and ability to handle difficult tasks effectively. He has also been proactive in establishing and implementing computer security standards within the college.

Bens door seems always open to everyone and he handles what must be nearly constant interruptions as well as anyone I have ever seen,said Bill Vinson, associate dean of research and associate director of the West Virginia Agriculture and Forestry Experiment Station.Through his efforts, he makes us all more effective and efficient.

Clerical/Secretarial:

Joy Patterson, interim program assistant for the Division of Family and Consumer Sciences, was instrumental in the creation of the Divisions first academic advising center. While overseeing student advising, she also continues her supporting role of the director.

Joy is extremely attentive to detail, never forgets a commitment, works unattended and has excellent editing skills. She has also always been willing to take on special projects,said Barbara McFall, Division interim director.

Paraprofessional/Technical:

Posters, certificates, brochures and programsGloria Nestor, the Colleges graphic arts designer, handles them all. Her work has been displayed at professional conferences and student presentations, as well as college functions. She also maintains the colleges Web site and online calendar.

Because of her expertise, Gloria performs work for all units of the College to prepare posters and displays for conferences and presentations,said Dean Cameron Hackney.She goes out of her way to accommodate last minute projects and her assistance to the faculty and students is invaluable.

Physical Plant/Maintenance/Service:

A dedicated employee for over 30 years, Gary Liston takes pride in his care of the dairy cattle on the Davis College Animal Sciences farm. He was nominated by numerous colleagues who all recognize and value his work with the students, faculty and staff.

Gary is a conscientious employee and recognizes the importance of his work to the benefit of the university and the students,said Robert Dailey, professor of animal and nutritional sciences.

Professional/Non-Teaching:

As a research assistant in the Division of Forestry and Natural Resources, Michael Boyce works with various classes and labs conducted at the WVU Research Forest. He also ensures the forests harvesting practices are up to standard, as well as making sure the roads remain in good condition. Over the last three years Boyce has setup and organized a GIS /GPS system for the forest and other properties managed by the Division.

In his professional training, Mike is a very good forester with a good working knowledge of forest inventory and harvesting operations,said John Brooks, associate professor of forest biometrics.
