West Virginia University Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences students have named Robert A. Dailey, professor of animal and nutritional sciences, outstanding advisor for 2006-07.

The Outstanding Advisor Award selection is conducted each spring by the Davis College Student Council. Twenty-six nominations were submitted by students in the college, and the council then conducted a college-wide vote, asking students to choose from five finalists.

Dailey directs the Davis-Michael Scholars Program and acts as the Davis Colleges primary advisor for agricultural students in the WVU Honors College. Nominations routinely cited Daileys availability and generosity.

Dr. Dailey always makes time to help anyone who comes into his office, whether they are his advisee or not, said Tanya Nickerson, an animal and nutritional sciences major from Arcade, N.Y.I know its a cliché to say, but Dr. Dailey has become a friend to me. I have learned a lot of things from him and will take the lessons I have learned and use them in the rest of my life.

Jodi Smith, an agribusiness management and rural development major from Washington, W.Va. agreed.

Dr. Dailey goes out of his way to help every student, regardless of the amount of time he has, your issue, and even your major. Dr. Dailey spent three weeks working with me to perfect my personal statement, resume and cover letter which led to my success in applying to graduate school, she said.

Both Nickerson and Smith have a high opinion of Dailey as an instructor as well as an advisor.

The best things about the classes I have taken with him are that he is always open to any new ideas that the students may have,Nickerson said.

Smith describes Daileys courses asincreasing my speaking and critical thinking abilities. I can more confidently think through an issue and take a stance on the subject.

Dailey received the award at the Davis Colleges Honors Convocation Friday April 20.
