Supporters of West Virginia UniversitysThree Little PigsScholarship Fund will gather at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, for a banquet and fund-raising auction. The event will be held at Christophers Banquet Hall in the Marion County Industrial Park in Fairmont.

The scholarship was established in 1987 by the late Pearle and Ben Abicht of St. Marys, W.Va.

The fund is named theThree Little PigsScholarship because the Abichts had donated three pigs for a student fund raiser for agricultural flood relief after the 1985 flood. After the Albichtspassing, their family has continued the generosity and provided pork for the scholarship auction each year to create ongoing opportunities for students in WVU s Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences. Several others donate a variety of items each year as well.

The endowed fund supports up to 12 scholarships each year to students enrolled in any of the Davis Colleges undergraduate programs. Recent recipients are pursuing programs in interior design, animal and nutritional sciences, environmental protection, horticulture and wildlife and fisheries resources.

The scholarships are offered to West Virginia resident students with financial need. The fund currently provides an amount that is set annually to approximate one semester’s tuition. The fund is managed by the WVU Foundation, Inc.

New donors are welcome to attend the banquet and auction, and enjoy the fun. Tickets are $20, and can be purchased at the door.
