Students are spreading a message of awareness and equality as Gay Pride Week (April 9-13) continues at West Virginia University.

Events will be held on the Downtown Campus throughout the week, includingUgly Ducklings,a presentation by Carolyn Gagea lesbian-feminist playwright, performer, director and activistfrom 7-9 p.m. Thursday (April 12) at the Eiesland Hall Auditorium, Room G-24. Other activitiesall in the MountainlairincludeDrag Bingoat 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Greenbrier Room and a screening and discussion of the film,Velvet Goldmine,at noon Thursday in the Shenandoah Room.

Discussions on various topics, ranging from domestic violence issues to spirituality, will be offered nightly, and exhibits will be available in the commons area every day to educate students about safe sex and promote Gay Pride Week.

Gay Pride Week is an annual event where we celebrate the rainbow of diversity of sexual minorities,said John Hagen, co-chair of the WVU Council on Sexual Orientation.Integrative multicultural activities have been planned to raise the general awareness of gay issues among the University and local community as well as to promote an inclusive environment among WVU students, faculty and staff.

Events are sponsored by the WVU Presidents Office for Social Justice; WVU Council on Sexual Orientation (COSO); and the Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian and Transgendered Mountaineers (BiGLTM).
