West Virginia University is hosting a national leader in healthy lifestyles, fitness and education at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 19.

Michael G. Davis, chief executive officer of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD), will speak on creative and life-enhancing lifestyles at Durrett Hall in WVU s Erickson Alumni Center.

Coordinated through WVU s School of Physical Education, the presentation will highlight AAHPERD and its efforts to support those involved in physical education, leisure, fitness, dance, health promotion, education and all specialties related to achieving a healthy lifestyle.

AAHPERD is an alliance of five national associations and six district associations which provides members with a comprehensive array of resources, professional support and development opportunities. The organization also encourages and disseminates research to help practitioners improve their skills and promote the health and well being of the American public.

Mike brings an important perspective to the Alliance organization,said Dana Brooks, dean of the School of Physical Education.We are fortunate that he is available to share his vision with our School of Physical Education Visiting Committee, faculty and staff.

Davis is a researcher, communicator and teacher. He formerly served with the University of Wisconsin system, where he was a departmental chair, director, assistant dean and associate dean. He took over the permanent administrator role for AAHPERD as executive vice president. He has served as chief executive officer since 2001.

Davis runs the daily workings of the organization. He partners with its board and annually-elected president to ensure the success of the AAHPERD mission, which is promoting creative and health-enhancing lifestyles for all Americans.
