West Virginia Universitys Department of English in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences is hosting a workshop Friday, March 2, on ways to adapt and modify English classrooms for inclusion.

The workshop, which will be conducted by WVU Assistant Professor of English Dr. Jay Dolmage will be from 1-2 p.m. in the Stansbury Library on the third floor of Stansbury Hall, Downtown Campus.

The event�€entitledInclusive Perspectives on Disability in the English Classroom�€is free and open to anyone interested in the topic of inclusive pedagogy. Teachers interested in creating inclusive classrooms are encouraged to attend and join in the discussion.

Dolmage will share some of the work he has done with the Office of Disability Services, as well as with the Conference on College Composition and Communication and the Modern Language Association.

The WVU professor will discuss ways to accommodate students with disabilities in the English classroom and the creation of an inclusive English pedagogy. He will look at some modifications that might be considered to make teaching more accessible and ways to foster multiple modes of learning and engagement.

The workshop will discuss proactive means of broadening educational spaces for greater access and more learning for all students,he said.

Dolmage has brought a disability rights perspective to issues of pedagogy through his research and scholarship in disability studies.

He is the author of numerous publications and his work has appeared in Disability Studies Quarterly, Journal of Advanced Composition and College Composition and Communication, among other journals.
