Members of West Virginia Universitys Cycling Club are spinning their wheels in the Mountainlair this week for a good cause.

The groups annual Spin-A-Thon, an indoor cycling event, benefits breast cancer treatment and research.

Donations can be made from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday (Feb. 27-28) in the commons area, where members will be riding stationary bikes. Between two and five students will pedal at a time.

The club will also be raffling a portable DVD player. Tickets are $1 each or eight tickets for $5. The winner will be announced at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The goal is to raise $1,000, Secretary Kristen Bioux said. All proceeds go to the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center and Ann Nutt Memorial Fundhonoring the mother of Steven Nutt, the clubs president. She died from breast cancer last year.

* WVU Cycling Club*

The WVU Cycling Club is made up of about 50 University students, faculty, staff and community members who bike for recreation or competition.

The clubs racing teamconsisting of full-time undergraduate and graduate studentshas won the Atlantic Coast Cycling Conference mountain bike championship six years in a row. The team races mountain bikes in the fall and road bikes in the spring.

Besides competing, the club also participates in several community projects, including trail maintenance and group bike rides, and it hosts mountain bike race weekends.
