Dahr Jamail, the writer and reporter who spent eight months in Iraq covering the war as an independent journalist, will talk about those experiences and more on Wednesday (Feb. 14) at West Virginia University.

Jamail went to the country because he felt mainstream media werent giving objective coverage to the war, especially concerning the political aftermath of the military action in both the Middle East and the United States.

While there, he was known as anunembeddedjournalist because of his freelance status. He was one of just a few independent U.S. journalists covering the war in Iraq during his time there.

His war dispatches appeared in international outlets, from the BBC and Asia Times to The Independent (United Kingdom) and Islam Online. He now writes for the Web site of Mother Jones magazine, and hes also reported from Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.
