West Virginia University will join with other colleges and universities across the state for the annual Higher Education Day at the Legislature Tuesday, Feb. 13, from 9:30 a.m.2 p.m.

This is a great opportunity for the University to provide information to legislators and others at the Capitol about WVU , and showcase some of our outstanding projects and programs,said WVU President David C. Hardesty, Jr.

WVU , Potomac State College of WVU , WVU at Parkersburg, WVU Institute of Technology and the Community and Technical College at WVU Tech will all have information displays in the Senate foyer area of the Upper Level of the Rotunda.

WVU will also set up its popularMountaineer Connectionkiosk, an interactive way for visitors to share their various connections with the University.

A feature video also will be shown that captures the exceptional accomplishments of Truman and Goldwater Scholar Rebecca McCauley of Morgantown. The WVU seniora double major in chemistry and biologywas the only college student in the country last year to win both prestigious awards. The Goldwater Scholarship is the premier award for students in math, science, and engineering fields, while the Truman Scholarship is reserved for students who show leadership potential and have an interest in government or public sector service.

Giveawaysand information about WVU and its regional/division campuseswill be provided.

Also as part of Higher Education Day, Gov. Joe Manchin will sign a proclamation designating it Higher Education Day, and citations and resolutions will be read in the House and State. State Treasurer John Perdue will hold a news conference at 1 p.m. in the Rotunda regarding the SMART529 program.
