With West Virginia Universitys recent upgrade of the STAR Information System, student billing and payment information is available electronically, officials say. Not only can students view all charges and payments applied to their account, they can also view anticipated credits from financial aid and other third-party sources.

Starting with the Summer 2007 term, all student billing will be administered electronically through STAR . Student Accounts will no longer be mailing paper bills unless specifically requested through STAR system by the student.

The new paperless billing system is more user-friendly and reflects more timely account information, said Student Accounts Assistant Director Michael Beto. There will be no more guessing of what is owed,he said, and online bill payment can be made anywhere the Internet is available 24 hours a day.

Students dont have to wait for a paper bill,Beto pointed out. They can log on anytime to review their charges, payments and pending credits.

With the new online delivery of billing information, students are also more likely to avoid late charges for missed deadlines, he said.

Information is confidentialonly to the student and individuals authorized by the student. Beto pointed out,If someone other than the student is paying for school, it will be the students responsibility to give that person STAR access or to request a hard copy bill for them.

Students will also receive MIX e-mail reminders about payment deadlines. If registered, students can expect their first electronic notification April 24, 2007.

As WVU makes the transition to paperless billing, paper copies will still be available to those students who request them through STAR .

The new electronic presentment for bills was developed with input from WVU students and staff. Beto said it meets the demands of the majority of students who are regular users of the Internet.

Families can expect to read more about this new system in the coming weeks. Information will be distributed to students and parents in e-mails and mailings and will also be posted to MIX , and general WVU websites. In addition, several seminars will be scheduled to demonstrate the system and to answer questions. Tutorials on how to make an electronic payment through STAR and how to request a paper bill through STAR will soon be available on Student Accounts’web site above. Additional advertising pieces are also planned.
