Charles Terrell, Ed. D., vice president, Division of Diversity Policy and Programs for the Association of American Medical Colleges and a nationally recognized authority on diversity in medical education, will speak at West Virginia University at noon, Friday, Feb. 2. His presentation,Enhancing Diversity in the Health Professions: The Right Thing to Do, The Smart Thing to Do,will be held in the HSC Auditorium of the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center. A reception will follow in the pylons lobby.

Under Dr. Terrells leadership, AAMC helps member institutions increase the number of minorities in the health professions, including preparing pre-college students academically and encouraging increased representation of minorities among medical students, residents and faculty. In addition, the division focuses on eliminating disparities in health care treatment and outcomes.

Dr. Terrell received his Ed.D in higher education from Nova Southeastern University. He began his work in medical education at Boston University School of Medicine in the Office of Minority Affairs.

The speech is the first presentation for 2007 in the WVU Health Sciences Grand Rounds series. HSC Grand Rounds are an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to hear from distinguished experts from all fields of health care and health research, and are open to the entire University community.
