A series of colloquia on international forestry will begin Thursday, Feb. 1, at West Virginia University with a look atLand Management Planning in Angola, Africafrom Glen Juergens of the USDA Forest Services Monongahela National Forest. The presentation will be held at noon in room 1030 of the South Agricultural Sciences Building.
The colloquia series has been organized by the WVU Division of Forestry and Natural Resources, Office of International Programs and Extension Service, funded by a grant from International Science and Education Program of the USDA Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service. The purpose of the $98,000 grant is to revitalize an international sustainable forestry curriculum at WVU .
In this first seminar of the series, Juergens will discuss a recent Forest Service mission to Angola and the challenges, hazards and opportunities of developing a land management plan for that war-torn country.
Juergens is a forest silviculturist with the Forest Services Elkins office. He has worked on the Monongahela National Forest since 1989 after stints with the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky and the Klamath National Forest in California.
Future colloquia in the series will look at development of the global forestry professional, international forest products marketing, and the role of the Peace Corps in agricultural and natural resources development.
