Students have three more clubs to join thanks to the Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences at West Virginia University.

The first club, called the West Virginia Collegiate Farm Bureau, is a subgroup of the national farm bureau organization, which represents agriculture across the nation.

According to Denny Smith, associate dean for academic affairs at the college and co-faculty advisor for the group, the bylaws for the organization are in place. The clubs objective is to promote leadership in agriculture among students.

Approximately 35 students are currently signed up for the group. The student club leader is Andy Yost of Baker, W.Va. Co-faculty advisor is Paul Lewis, director of the Division of Animal and Veterinary Sciences.

The second club, the Society for Environmental Professionals (SEP), is in the planning stages. SEP is a national organization that works to provide a common ground where students from various academic disciplines related to air and waste management can advance their understanding of environmental management through an organized exchange of knowledge.

Faculty advisor is Jim Kotcon, associate professor of plant and soil sciences. Student club leader is Greg Boyce of Morgantown.

The third organization is the bird club. The club was formed last year as a result of student interest, said Bob Whitmore, faculty advisor and professor of Division of Forestry. It was a grassroots effort.

Student Joe Hildreth of Delta, Ohio, said the club will organize outdoor events to conduct field observations of birds. We would also like to do community-oriented programs, such as working with schools to get kids interested and possibly setting up feeders and improving habitats around campus, said Hildreth.Connecting birders with other birders is reason enough for the club in my opinion.

The bird club is open to students of all majors.
