West Virginia University junior Francesca Merandi of Morgantown is busy putting the finishing touches on the jewelry pieces shell have available for sale during the annual Mountaineer Week craft fair from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3 to Sunday, Nov. 5 in the Mountainlair ballrooms.
The self-taught jewelry creator will be participating in the craft fair for the fourth year in a row.
I didnt realize I would be one of the youngest participants when I signed up during my senior year of high school,Merandi said. Most of the other participants have been working in their fields for years; it was intimidating at first.
However, she said being a part of the textiles, apparel and merchandising program offered through the Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences has enhanced her knowledge and skills, as well as expanded her creativity.
Whether your style is vintage, urban, Victorian or something in between, shell have a variety of necklaces, earrings and bracelets made from Austrian crystals and precious and semi-precious stones for sale. Hand-decorated cigar box purses will be available for purchase, as well.
Merandi can custom-make something that day or take a special order. Prices for the pieces range from $10 to $300.
Her collection, called Fran Meran, can also be found at Coni and Franc on High Street in Morgantown.
