Students and professionals will present their original works of new music in a concert at 8:15 p.m. Friday (Nov. 3) in the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center.
The event, which will be in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (Room 200A) on the Evansdale Campus, is free and open to the public.
Student works include songs and a piano sonata by doctoral student Sean Beachy of Cumberland, Md.; a piano trio work in progress by junior Zackery Wilson of Uniontown, Pa.; and a piano suite by senior Patrick Weikle of Charleston, W.Va.
The composers will all be involved as performers, along with violinist David Price, cellist Curtis Green, and voice and piano students.
In addition, Wilson and Weikle will collaborate on a piano four-hands improvisation, a rare example of non-jazz composers improvising in public.
The concert will also feature a performance from composer and West Virginia native George CrumbsMadrigals, Book One.Faculty members Cynthia Conner-Bess, soprano, George Willis, percussion, and Andrew Kohn, double bass, will perform this work.
