State Secretary of Revenue John C. Musgrave has announced that Gov. Manchins Tax Modernization Project Work Study Group will hold a public hearing at the West Virginia University College of Law Lugar Courtroom at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21.
The public is invited; registration is from 5:30-6:20 p.m.
The hearing is to allow taxpayers throughout the state to provide suggestions for changing the current tax structure. According to Secretary Musgrave,The work group has been meeting with a variety of people from all over the state. The inclusion of so many people provides a wide range of proposals, resulting in a better final product. We are continuing to seek public input.
The hearing will be moderated by R. Stephen Sears, Milan Puskar Dean of the WVU College of Business and Economics. Dr. Tom Witt, director of the Colleges Bureau of Business and Economic Research, will also be in attendance as a representative of the Tax Modernization Project.
The Tax Modernization Work Study Group was assembled to systematically research and analyze state and local taxation to create a more modern tax structure that encourages economic growth.
