West Virginia University music faculty member Keith Jackson will present a trombone recital Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Creative Arts Center. He will be joined by piano professor James Miltenberger.
The concertwhich is free to the publicbegins at 8:15 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Recital Hall.
The program will featureA Hymn for the Lost and The Living, In Memoriam September 11, 2001by Eric Ewazen. Other pieces includeEuphonium Sonataby Alec Wilder;Mythos II, The War of the Woodfor unaccompanied alto trombone by David Herring; andTrombone Sonataby Ladislav Kubik, a Czech composer and faculty member at Florida State University.
Jackson teaches trombone, euphonium, jazz arranging and chamber music at WVU . He is lead trombonist with the U.S. Air Jazz Orchestra, a traditional big band that performs throughout the United States and Europe. He also performs with the Mountain State Brass Quintet.
Miltenberger has given numerous solo recitals in cities such as Chicago, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C. and at Carnegie Recital Hall in New York. He has toured Europe four times with the Miltenberger Jazz Quartet. He also has appeared on national television on PBS and on the NBC Today Show.
