The West Virginia University Department of English will present aHistory Alive!performance featuring story-teller and actress Karen Vuranch as Pearl Buck.

The event is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, in Room 48 Stansbury Hall, Downtown Campus. A reception will follow the performance in Room 44 Stansbury, home to the WVU Writing Center. Seating is limited.

Born in West Virginia, Pearl Buck grew up in China with her missionary parents, but never forgot her West Virginia roots. She received the Pulitzer Prize for her novelThe Good Earth,and was also a humanitarian and social activist who was deeply concerned about the welfare of children worldwide.

Vuranch performs throughout West Virginia and internationally, bringing the history of the state to life through reenactment and performance. She received her masters degree in humanities from West Virginia Graduate College and teaches Appalachian studies and theater at Concord College in Athens.

The event is co-sponsored by the National Writing Project at WVU , with cooperation from the West Virginia Humanities Council.
