John C. Skinner Jr. of Charles Town has been a regular at the West Virginia University Alumni Associations annual Gold&Blue Golf Tournament. He typically meets up with old friends and hits the links for a fun day of golf.
So, as he and his teammates prepared to tee off on the 16th hole at the Palmer Course at Stonewall Resort, sponsored by Hendrickson&Long, he had no idea it would be his lucky day.
Skinner teed off and the ball rolled onto the green and right into the cup earning him $15,000.
Ive played Stonewall Resort several times before, and Ive never made it onto the 16th green from the tee.I was pleased when my ball landed on the green, but I was dumbfounded when the ball went into the hole. I assure you that the shot was a combination of very little skill and a whole lot of luck, joked Skinner.
Skinner received his $15,000 check from Steve Douglas, president and chief executive officer of the WVU Alumni Association, during a special presentation prior to the WVU -Marshall game.
It is very exciting to see a golfer in our tournament win the hole-in-one prize, said Douglas.John is a dedicated and loyal alumnus who supports this event year after year.We are very pleased that he was the lucky winner.
The prize money was provided by the National Hole-In-One Associationthe world’s oldest and largest provider of hole-in-one insurance and prize insurance for golf events as well as other prize services.
