Students interested in Greek life at West Virginia University will berushingto the annualMeet the Greeksevent from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, on the Mountainlair plaza.

Meet the Greeksis when the entire fraternity and sorority community comes together to celebrate Greek unity as well as what makes each chapter unique,said Ashley Staggers, student program adviser for Student Organization Services.

All 14 fraternities, eight sororities, and six black fraternities and sororities at WVU will be represented as well as WVU s three Greek councils.

Staggers said each organization will have a booth showcasing its accomplishments and membership information.

The event follows on the heels of the centennial anniversary celebration of the Collegiate Panhellenic Councilthe governing body for WVU s sororitiesand a successful academic year of Greek philanthropic activities that collectively raised $45,000.

Special guests include WVU President David C. Hardesty Jr., an alumnus of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, and his wife, Susan, national chair of the Mountaineer Parents Club and an alumna of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

WVAQ 101 .9 FM will broadcast live, and there will be great prizes along with free food and soft drinks, Staggers added.

Greek Symposium

A new WVU event this year is the Greek Symposium from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Touchdown Terrace at Milan Puskar Stadium.

Student Organization Services will play host to collegiate and alumni members of WVU sororities and fraternities. The event is aimed at cultivating and showcasing leadership within the Greek community.

The day-long symposium will include breakout sessions on Greek issues and a presentation by Jerry Nelson, founder of Ticketmaster and an alumnus of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity at the University of California, Los Angeles. His talk will begin around noon.

Other guests will include President Hardesty and Vice President for Student Affairs Ken Gray.
