Three West Virginia University music faculty will present a recital at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, in the Creative Arts Centers Bloch Learning and Performance Hall.

Performing will be Rebecca Turner, soprano; Virginia Thompson, horn; and Christine Kefferstan, piano. The event is free and open to the public.

The program will feature works by Franz Schubert, Simon Sargon and Jacqueline Sellers. They includeAuf dem Strom,Schuberts first work for soprano, horn and piano based on a poem by Ludwig Rellstab;Huntsman, What Quarry?by Sargon, based on two Edna St. Vincent Millay poems that explore the psychology of hunting; andSometimes I Feel like a Motherless Child,Deep RiverandAmazing Grace,three spiritual compositions by Sellers.

Turner is associate professor of voice. She has bachelors degrees in piano and vocal performance from Shorter College in Rome, Ga., and a masters degree in piano performance from the University of North Texas in Denton. She has performed with opera companies in Bremen and Dsseldorf, Germany, and with more than 500 performances to date, her repertoire is extensive, including many lead soprano roles. Recital venues have ranged from the United States to Austria, France and Germany.

Thompson, professor of horn at WVU , is a recitalist specializing in new music. She is a former president of the International Horn Society and has performed on many IHS symposium programs. Previously, she taught horn at Coe, Cornell and Grinnell colleges and the University of Iowa, and was a member of several metropolitan orchestras in the United States. Before pursuing a career in higher education, she performed with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Xalapa in Mexico.

Kefferstan is professor of piano. She graduated from the College-Conservatory of Cincinnati, where she studied with David Bar-Illan. Recently she co-presented a lecture/recital on RavelsLa Valsefor the MTNA National Convention in Utah and was piano soloist for the Steinway Series, Pittsburgh. As a recitalist and adjudicator, she has presented programs throughout the United States. Her articles have appeared in Keyboard Companion, Clavier and Piano Quarterly.
