This season promises stellar entertainment, including performances by Lily Tomlin, Kenny Rogers, Chris Botti, and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. The series also boasts three performances of the national tour ofThe Producers,a holiday concert by Canadian Brass and more.

All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre of the WVU Creative Arts Center.

Elton John and Tim Rices timeless love storyAidaopens the series on Oct. 4. Winner of four 2000 Tony Awards, this musical is the story of a Nubian princess stolen from her country; Amneris, an Egyptian princess; and Radames, the soldier they both love. Time magazine calls this showa big, bright show with luscious Elton John melodies.

WVU alumnus and Morgantown native David Selby stars alongside Eric Stoltz in the LA Theatre Works radio theater production ofThe Caine Mutiny Court-Martialon Oct. 15. This brilliant courtroom tragedy is the fictitious account of the USS Caine, Captain Queeg and the mutinous acts aboard the ship rocked by a typhoon in World War II.

The national tour ofThe Producers,the new Mel Brooks musical, rolls into Morgantown for three shows Oct. 31-Nov. 2. The biggest Tony Award-winner in history, with a record-breaking 12 awards, tells the story of a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer who hatches the ultimate theatrical scam: to raise more money than they need to produce a sure-fire Broadway disaster and then pocket the leftover cash.

November welcomes Bowfire, a company that features the finest fiddle and violin virtuosos ever to assemble on stage. Audiences will embark on a musical journey that moves seamlessly from jazz, classical, bluegrass, Celtic, rock, gypsy, world, Texas swing, Ottawa Valley and Cape Breton styles, and mixes in incredible step and tap dancing.

If youre a fan of classic doo wop, youll want to be in the audience on Nov. 17 when Cornell Gunters Coasters, The Platters, and Beary HobbsDrifters take the CAC stage. These Rock and Roll Hall of Fame greats are sure to deliver an unforgettable concert featuring hits likeSearchin,Yakety Yak,The Great Pretender,Twilight Time,Such a Night,Save the Last Dance for Meand many more.

The story of two sisters fresh off the bus from Ohio and bursting with dreams of making it big, falling in love and living happily ever after in New York City is sure to please whenWonderful Towncomes to Morgantown Dec.1.Wonderful Towncelebrates and thrives on the pulse of jazz-age New York. The classic and familiar score includesOhio,A Little Bit in LoveandChristopher Street.

Cirque Dreams returns to the University Arts Series with their new productionCirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy.The entire family will enjoy this reinvention of the circus with European flair, imaginative theatrics and world-class acrobatics. An international cast of graceful aerialists, spine-bending contortionists, vine-swinging characters, strongmen and balancers will bring this jungle dream to life in a lush Broadway setting filled with wildly unpredictable designs, special effects, inventive choreography, puppeteering and dazzling costumes Dec. 6.

Also in December, the Canadian Brassone of worlds most acclaimed brass ensembleswill present a special holiday concert. Theres no better way to celebrate the holiday season than with Canadian Brassunbeatable blend of virtuosity and comedy and a high-spirited program of classics, jazz and sounds of the season.

The University Arts Series will begin 2007 with the Tony award-winningMan of La Mancha.The epic story of knight-errant Don Quixote, his servant Sancho and the woman of his dreams will come alive in this breathtaking new production Jan. 9. The New York News raves,An exquisite playthe finest and most original work sinceFiddler on the Roof.

January will also celebrate the music of Ray Charles, the genius of soul, when the first U.S. tour ofI Cant Stop Loving Yourolls into Morgantown Jan. 31. This song-and-dance extravaganza will rock the house with an on-stage orchestra and a dazzling company of singers and dancers. WithGeorgia,Hit the Road Jack,America the Beautiful,Unchain My Heartand, of course,I Cant Stop Loving You,this musical revue will deliver hit after hit.

Catsreturns to the series on Valentines Day to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Theres no better way to introduce your family to the wonders of live theatre than with the magic, the mystery, theMemoryof Cats. Winner of seven Tonys, including Best Musical, the national tour features 20 of Andrew Lloyd Webbers timeless melodies.

Grammy-winning Sweet Honey in the Rock will perform in the intimacy of the CAC March 4. This black female a cappella ensemble has deep musical roots in the sacred music of the black churchspirituals, hymns, gospelsas well as jazz and blues. The septets words will be simultaneously interpreted in uniquely expressive American sign language.

The incomparable Kenny Rogers will perform March 10. This music legend has won three Grammy awards, 11 Peoples Choice awards, 18 American Music awards, eight Academy of Country Music awards, five Country Music Association awards and sold 105 million albums worldwide. Rogers continues to captivate audiences with his memorable songs:The Gambler,Ruby, Dont Take Your Love to Town,Lucille,Buy Me a Rose,and the list goes on.

A true American pop music icon will take the CAC stage March 11. Frankie Valli has wooed audiences for four decades. His incredible career as a solo artist and with The Four Seasons has produced 19 top 10 hits and sold more than 100 million records worldwide. Vallis falsetto was the trademark of The Four Seasonsdistinctive musical stylethe popular doo wop of the 1950s infused with rhythm and blues influences that would come to define much of the 1960s. Their hitsSherryandBig Girls Dont Cryare rock and roll classics.

For those with an interest in dance, the University Arts Series offers a performance by Ballet Hispanico March 18. The Ballet Hispanico Company, celebrated for its innovative repertory and sizzling artistry, embodies the vitality of Hispanic culture and its exceptional contribution to contemporary dance and modern American culture. Each of the companys works is inspired by an aspect of Hispanic culture and is set in a lively and colorful atmosphere that celebrates Latino heritage.

If youre looking for a laugh, then youll want to be in the audience April 9 for An Evening of Classic Lily Tomlin. A Hollywood legend, Tomlin is one of Americas foremost comediennes. She has starred in television, theater and film and received numerous awards, including six Emmys and two Tonys (Appearing NitelyandThe Search of Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe). Tomlin has given life to a fascinating cast of characters, from Ernestine the Operator onLaugh-Into the multiple personalities that populateThe Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe.This is sure to be an unforgettable evening of side-splitting laughter filled with comical insights and wildly witty observations about the human condition.

The University Arts Series concludes April 18 with a concert by gifted trumpeter, instrumentalist and composer Chris Botti. Since the release of his first solo album in 1995, Botti has created a series of recordings that have made him a genre-of-one in the realm of contemporary jazz. His latest CDTo Love Againshowcases his inimitable velvet tone and sublime trumpet phrasings on the songsNo Ordinary LoveandSomeone to Watch Over Me.Bottis concert promises an evening of classic romantic jazz.
