Alan B. Martin has been appointed assistant vice president for research administration in the WVU Research Office.

Martin has been an employee of WVU s Office of Sponsored Programs since 1987 and served as its director since 2000. He will retain his responsibilities as director and in his new role take on oversight responsibilities for other administrative units of the Research Office effective Sept. 1.

The research and economic development of the University has grown substantially over the past several years,said John Weete, WVU vice president for research and economic development.

This change in Alans responsibilities is part of organizational changes in the Research Office to ensure that growth in the administrative support infrastructure keeps pace with the growth in research and that we are organized for maximizing efficiency,Weete added.

In addition to the Office of Sponsored Programs, Martins new role will include oversight for Research Compliance, the Research Expert Business Office and the WVU Research Corp.s human resources and accounting units.

I have worked with Alan for the past eight years, and he has done an excellent job as director,Weete said.I am confident that he will continue the high level of professional service to our research enterprise in his new responsibilities.
