Three major campus software systems at West Virginia University soon will undergo upgrades.

New versions of MIX , STAR and Vista will be introduced this week. While this means downtime for each system, the upgrades ultimately benefit users by offering improved integration between the three systems, said Tim Marton, director of information systems in the Office of Information Technology.

We believe that once fully tuned, the interplay between these systems will be more seamless and the systems themselves will become more stable over the next few weeks than in the pastespecially MIX ,Marton said.

Cathy Orndorff, director of Web Services, added that the new MIX will allow much functionality that was not available in old MIX .

I think students are really going to be pleased with new areas such as the WVU Today news feed and the student organization calendar, she said.

Likewise, an upgrade of the STAR Information System will pave the way for new features. The University is upgrading its current implementation of Banner 6.x to Banner 7.x as a result of the annual software license with SunGard SCT .

One benefit of this upgrade will be a possible implementation of electronic billing of student fees in the near future, said Cheng Khoo, director of Admissions and Records. This feature will allow students to access their student account information online.

An outage of Vista, WVU s Web-based course management system, is also planned for software upgrades and preparations for the fall semester.

The MIX , STAR and Vista upgrades are collaborative efforts involving the Office of Information Technology, Student Systems Development, Vista Support and Web Services.

Student and employees are asked to make note of the outage times for each of the systems, listed below:
