More than 3,300 students received diplomas from West Virginia University in May.

New graduates and their families celebrated their academic achievements at the May 14 Commencement at the WVU Coliseum. The ceremony included an inspirational speech by Jerry West �€ WVU alumnus, NBA legend and Memphis Grizzlies’president of basketball operations.

�€?Strong and clear goals provide the light to guide you,�€? West told graduates. �€?I have lived my dream. I hope you are able to say the same thing as your journey winds down, as mine is now. Your foundation has been laid; it is up to you to build from here.�€?

West is a 1960 graduate of the WVU School of Physical Education and native of Cheylan , W.Va.
