West Virginia University students are juggling more than classes, jobs and road trips this summer.

Members of the WVU Juggling Club are geared up for the 7th Annual West Virginia Juggling Festival June 2-4 at the Student Recreation Center .

Designed with the family in mind, the event features workshops for all skill levels. Even advanced jugglers will have a chance to improve their skills, organizers say.

€?We have something for everyone,€? said Laura Spengler, WVU Juggling Club president. €?If you have never juggled in your life, this is your chance to learn.€?

The festival kicks off Friday, June 2, with a free open gym from 5-9 p.m. Spectators are welcome. The wall of windows lining the open gym is the perfect vantage point to check out the juggling activities at no cost, Spengler said.

Beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 3, a series of workshops will give jugglers an opportunity to work with props, ranging from balls and clubs to devil sticks. Participants can also practice tricks in the open gym from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.

The day will culminate with a juggling show, featuring members of the WVU Juggling Club and guest performers, set for 8 p.m. in G24 Eiesland Hall. Free and open to the public, this event always attracts a large audience.

Finally, all those workshops will pay off, and skills will be put to the test during the Jugglympics at noon Sunday, June 4. Participants will compete for trophies in four main events: Simon Says, juggling limbo, Diablo speed pass and combat.

And if you don’t think you can juggle like the pros, come to the Jugglympics anyway, Spengler said.

€?People at all levels of talent are invited to compete,€? she said. €?We will find you a spot on a team.€?

After the Jugglympics, everyone is encouraged to stay for the open gym, which runs from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. that day.

About 100 people are expected to participate in this year’s juggling fest. People have come from as far away as Oregon to participate, Spengler noted, but she especially wants the local community to get involved.

The WVU Juggling Club meets once or twice a week during the fall and spring semesters.
