West Virginia University is co-hosting a one-day workshop on forest taxation and estate planning this month with the state Division of Forestry’s Forest Stewardship Program.
The workshop will be from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at the USDA -ARS Appalachian Farming Systems Research Center at Beaver, W.Va., near Beckley .
Information and particulars about income taxes as related timber harvesting and forestland estate transfers will be presented.
Other topics include record-keeping for operating and management expenses, land basis, passive losses, capital gains from timber sales, cost-share expenses, inheritance taxes and conservation easements.
The $50 registration fee includes materials, lunch and refreshments. Participating foresters may also receive continuing education credits.
